Marnhull, Dorset

A picture from Spring project 2006 Landart was asked to design and construct a decking area with provision for a bridge to span an existing pond. This area of the garden was to be of an informal design using dynamic lines to suit the existing curves of the pond and the contours of the garden.

Green oak was chosen for the decking due to its longevity and unique aging characteristics. In time untreated oak mellows to a soft silver hue. The slight cracking and twisting of the boards due to the elements of the sun and rain give the perfect informal effect that the clients were looking for.

The main seating area was supported by a dry stone wall which comprised of brick and various local stone. This gave a cottage style feel which blended with the house and existing garden walling continuing the informal atmosphere of the garden.

Two deck areas were counter levered out over the pond to enable the clients to sit and cool their feet in the water during the summer months!
