Chillington, Somerset

A new retaining wall was constructed offering a larger area for the formal kitchen garden. This comprised of four oak raised beds with a central water feature. An overflowing large urn was set inside a circular brick built pool giving a strong central focus. For aesthetics and ease of maintenance self-binding gravel was used for the kitchen garden paths. The central path steps up through a beech hedge, passing the greenhouse and curves towards the tiered deck area which is on two sides of the garden room. The front deck offers space for entertaining and looks back towards the kitchen garden whilst the lower deck to the side offers views across the woodland garden to the rear of the garden room. All the brickwork was laid in Flemish bond to match the house, the deck boards were locally sourced sweet chestnut. Lighting was installed throughout the design.
